Electricians

Plumbing Contractors

Water damage claims are among the most common issues plumbers face, and they can surface long after a job is done. KTL can help plumbing businesses review general liability, workers' comp, and vehicle options and understand how policy wording treats completed work.

Painting Contractors

Drywall & Flooring Contractors

What contractors typically review

Contractors General Liability

General liability is usually the first policy a client, general contractor, or property manager asks to see. It is designed to respond to claims that your work or operations caused bodily injury or property damage to someone else, subject to the policy's terms, limits, and exclusions.

Contractors Workers' Compensation

Workers' compensation is designed to provide benefits to employees who are injured on the job, as defined by state law and the policy. Most states require it once you have employees, and many general contractors require proof of it from their subcontractors.

Commercial Auto & Work Trucks

If your trucks, vans, or trailers are titled to the business, carry tools and materials, or are driven by employees, commercial auto is the policy designed for that use. It can include liability, physical damage, and other coverages depending on what you select.

Tools & Equipment Insurance

Your tools travel with you, and a general liability policy is not designed to cover your own property. Tools and equipment coverage — often written as an inland marine or contractor's equipment floater — can cover your gear on job sites, in transit, and in storage, subject to the policy terms.

Commercial Umbrella & Excess Liability

Larger contracts often require liability limits higher than a primary policy provides. A commercial umbrella or excess liability policy can add limits above specified underlying policies, such as general liability, auto liability, and employer's liability.

Builders Risk & Installation Coverage

Materials and equipment you are installing are at risk until the project is complete and accepted. Builders risk and installation floaters are designed to cover property in the course of construction or installation, subject to the policy terms.

Surety bond — not insurance

Contractor Bonds

A surety bond is not an insurance policy. It is a three-party guarantee: the surety guarantees to the obligee (such as a licensing board or project owner) that you, the principal, will meet an obligation. If the surety pays a valid claim, you are generally expected to repay the surety.

Growing businesses

Have employees or multiple work vehicles?

Once you have a crew and a fleet, workers' compensation and commercial auto usually become the biggest parts of your insurance picture. Payroll by job type, driver records, and how vehicles are used all affect what's available. We'll help you organize that information and review your options.

Contracts & certificates

Help reviewing insurance requirements for jobs and contracts

General contractors and property managers often require specific limits and endorsements. KTL can help you review requirements and request certificates and endorsements, such as:

  • Additional insured
  • Waiver of subrogation
  • Primary and noncontributory

A certificate is evidence of insurance and does not itself add or change coverage. Endorsements are subject to carrier approval, availability, and policy terms.

How it works

Three steps

  1. 1

    Tell us about your business

Share your trade, crew size, vehicles, and the coverage you're looking for. 'Not sure' is a fine answer.

  2. 2

    Review available options

A KTL agent reviews your information against available markets and walks you through options and requirements.

  3. 3

    Choose coverage and request binding

When you're ready, choose the options that fit and request binding. Coverage starts only once it's bound and confirmed.
