Builders Risk and Installation Floater Coverage

Materials and equipment you are installing are at risk until the project is complete and accepted. Builders risk and installation floaters are designed to cover property in the course of construction or installation, subject to the policy terms.

What it may help with

Subject to the actual policy or bond form, its terms, limits, and exclusions.

  • Materials and supplies at the job site, in transit, or in temporary storage before installation, as described in the policy.
  • Work in progress, such as installed HVAC units or electrical gear, before the owner accepts the project.
  • Project-specific coverage when a contract requires the contractor to insure the work.

Keep in mind

  • Who is responsible for insuring the project — owner or contractor — is usually set by the contract. Read that section first.
  • Builders risk is generally property coverage, not liability coverage, and it does not replace general liability.
  • Theft, water damage, and testing may carry specific conditions or exclusions.

Questions we'll review with you

  • What types of materials or equipment do you install, and at what typical value per job?
  • Does your contract require you to insure the work?
  • Is the project new construction or a renovation of an existing building?

Coverage availability, eligibility, limits, and pricing are subject to underwriting and policy terms. Requesting a quote does not bind coverage.
