Finish Carpentry and Remodeling Contractor Insurance
Remodelers and finish carpenters work inside occupied homes and businesses, often coordinating subs. KTL can help you review liability, workers' comp, tools, and builders risk options and the requirements in your client contracts.

- Damage to existing structures and contents during remodeling.
- Subcontractor management — and the audit and liability issues that come with it.
- Power tools and saws that create employee injury exposure.
- Projects that involve structural changes, which may require additional underwriting review.
Coverage options to discuss
Contractors General Liability
General liability is usually the first policy a client, general contractor, or property manager asks to see. It is designed to respond to claims that your work or operations caused bodily injury or property damage to someone else, subject to the policy's terms, limits, and exclusions.
Contractors Workers' Compensation
Workers' compensation is designed to provide benefits to employees who are injured on the job, as defined by state law and the policy. Most states require it once you have employees, and many general contractors require proof of it from their subcontractors.
Commercial Auto & Work Trucks
If your trucks, vans, or trailers are titled to the business, carry tools and materials, or are driven by employees, commercial auto is the policy designed for that use. It can include liability, physical damage, and other coverages depending on what you select.
Tools & Equipment Insurance
Your tools travel with you, and a general liability policy is not designed to cover your own property. Tools and equipment coverage — often written as an inland marine or contractor's equipment floater — can cover your gear on job sites, in transit, and in storage, subject to the policy terms.
Builders Risk & Installation Coverage
Materials and equipment you are installing are at risk until the project is complete and accepted. Builders risk and installation floaters are designed to cover property in the course of construction or installation, subject to the policy terms.
Commercial Umbrella & Excess Liability
Larger contracts often require liability limits higher than a primary policy provides. A commercial umbrella or excess liability policy can add limits above specified underlying policies, such as general liability, auto liability, and employer's liability.
Practical questions we'll ask
- Do you act as the general contractor on remodels, or work as a sub?
- Do you perform structural work, additions, or roofing?
- What do you pay subcontractors annually, and do you collect their certificates?
- What is your typical project size?
Your answers help an agent understand which markets may be a fit. Not every carpentry & remodeling business qualifies with every carrier, and some operations require additional underwriting review.
Coverage availability, eligibility, limits, and pricing are subject to underwriting and policy terms. Requesting a quote does not bind coverage.
