Help reviewing contract insurance requirements
Before you sign, it pays to know whether your current policies line up with what the contract asks for.
What KTL can help with
- Reading the insurance section of a subcontract, master service agreement, or property management contract.
- Comparing required limits and coverage types to your current policies.
- Requesting certificates of insurance for clients and general contractors.
- Requesting endorsements from your carrier when a contract requires them.
Items we'll review
Additional insured
Extends certain coverage under your policy to another party, such as a general contractor or property owner, usually for liability arising from your work. The scope depends on the endorsement form used.
Waiver of subrogation
An agreement that your insurer won't seek recovery from a specified party after paying a claim. It can apply to general liability, auto, and workers' comp, and may carry an additional charge or be unavailable in some cases.
Primary and noncontributory
Wording that asks your policy to respond before the other party's own insurance, without seeking contribution from it. It must be supported by policy endorsement language.
Required limits and policy types
Contracts often list minimum limits for general liability, auto, workers' comp, and umbrella. We'll compare these to what you carry.
What a certificate is — and isn't
A certificate of insurance is evidence that a policy exists on the date it's issued. It does not itself add, extend, or change coverage. If a contract requires additional insured status or a waiver of subrogation, the policy must include an endorsement that provides it.
Required endorsements are subject to carrier approval, availability, and policy terms. Some may carry an additional premium or may not be available for certain operations. We can't guarantee immediate certificates or that a policy will meet every contract requirement, but we'll tell you clearly what we find.
Coverage availability, eligibility, limits, and pricing are subject to underwriting and policy terms. Requesting a quote does not bind coverage.
